   Lumen Gentium Award

We are happy to announce that Mr. & Mrs. Joe and Minerva Sandoval have been awarded the Lumen Gentium Award 2021 and will receive it, God willing, next month.

Mr. & Mrs. Joe & Minerva Sandoval have been parishioners since 1969. During the past 52 years they have been involved in many different ministries, both are catechists and lead the Baptismal preparation classes twice a month. They are both Lectors, Eucharistic Ministers and Sacristans for Daily Mass.

Joe also helps with minor repairs and maintenance here and there. He also helps the Art & Environment Ministry and is very handy and talented. His carpentry skills are phenomenal! Minerva is a great cook! They are both very positive, kind, and warm. They truly reflect God’s love to all! Whatever you need they are always there. St. Leonard is very blessed to have them and we thank God for their presence and ministry among us!

Thank you, Joe & Minnie, for being a light for our community!

   Dear Pastor or Parish Administrator,

Our parishes will hold the annual Retirement Fund for Religious collection on the weekend of December 12-13, 2020.  Many elderly Catholic sisters, brothers, and religious order priests served for years for little or no pay. Today, hundreds of religious communities lack sufficient retirement savings and struggle to provide for their elders. Covid-19 has only increased the challenge to provide adequate care. Collection proceeds offer financial assistance and resources to help eligible communities meet the ongoing needs of aging members.

Novenario 2020

Thank you to all the people who organized and led the Novenario for All Faithful Departed, from setting the Altar, to leading the Rosary, to bringing snacks, to lighting the candles, to cleaning, disinfecting  and arranging chairs every day. The celebration of the Mass and the praying of the Rosary was the best gift we could have offered to our deceased loved ones.

   Election Night – November 03, 2020

Prepare yourself for the upcoming Election, get informed about the different issues that are at stake, form your conscience, pray, discern & vote!

On Tuesday, November 3rd, St. Leonard will be an election site so you will be able to come and cast your vote right here.

Also, that day we will host Adoration from noon until 6 pm, if you can please come and spend some time with Our Lord and pray for our future civil authorities and for peace and unity for our country.

You are invited to bring the pictures of your loved ones on Saturday, October 24 to be placed on the Altar de Muertos that we will have in the Parish Center. Also, do not forget to use the special envelope for this celebration so we can offer the Mass and prayers for your loved ones. Envelopes and candles will be available in the Parish Center and in the lobby of the Church during the weekend.

During the week of October 26 to the 30th, Daily Mass will be celebrated in the Parish Center at 6:30 pm. A special Mass for All the Faithful Departed “We remember With Love Mass” will be celebrated on Monday, November 2nd at 6:30 pm.

    Parish Center Upgrade

Thank God and thanks to your generosity we were able to finish the upgrade of the Parish Center just in time for the start of the Faith Formation Classes!   I am happy to report that we did way more than we originally planned, but I think the results are noticeable and pretty nice!  So, you know, some of the things that were done are:

We had a Fire Inspection in the Parish and the Parish Center and we were required to add 4 more fire-extinguishers in the Church. We also tinted the main doors in the Church, this will help to not only have a more secure space, as people will not be able to see thru the glass doors but also to keep it cool.

We have been power washing some areas, putting some fencing around the AC units, painting some areas in the Parish. Special thanks to Joe Sandoval, Romeo Leija & Jorge Vallejo for their hard work! They are unstoppable, and I am very grateful for their dedication to the Parish.

We changed/repaired some of the existing A/C ductwork for proper air distribution.

We installed  mini split A/C units in each classroom, this will help us to be more efficient and save energy! In the past one AC unit serviced 2 rooms, so if only one room was being used the other room was being cooled even though it was empty.  This new system is much more efficient.

We replaced all ceiling tiles in the Main Hall, Kitchen, Concession Stand, all Classrooms and Bathrooms.

We installed low cost energy efficient LED lighting in all Classrooms & Main Hall.

We installed dimmers in the Main Hall and light sensors in the Bathrooms.

We installed smoke detectors and exit emergency lights in all classrooms & areas in the Hall.

We tinted all windows – 50 total, inside and outside – the windows inside have a chrome/mirror effect that not only allows us to keep our children in a safe environment but it creates a dimensional and more spacious effect, its perfect for social gatherings!

We painted all classrooms, kitchen, and storage areas.

We removed a wall in the DRE's office to create an adjacent space for small meetings with parents.

We used these past two weeks to clean, organize and dispose of many things that we were not using anymore.

Next week we will provide you with a date for a Blessing and Open House of this space, we hope some of you can come and check it out in person! For now, we are preparing a little video for you to see the before and after, we’ll send it to you soon!

God willing this coming Wednesday, October 21 at 7 pm we will have the Blessing and Open House. I hope some of you can come and check it out in person, all are invited! Please wear your mask and follow all health protocols we will have in place.

Congratulations to the kids and teens who will make their First Communion this coming Saturday!  Let us keep them in our prayers!    Maintenance Projects

We are planning and working on some projects that with God’s help we hope will happen soon.  Some of the projects are:

1) Installing new ceiling tiles and LED lights in the kitchen and all classrooms in the Parish Center. We hope this much needed project will be completed by the end of this month.

2) We are working on the parking lot drainage to help stop the erosion of the asphalt.  We rented an excavator and made a swale so water can flow directly from the parking lot into the creek behind the rectory.

3) We will install some metal poles and chains to secure the area and prevent any potential accidents.

4) We want to move forward with the parking lot repairs, we already sent some information to the Archdiocese and we are still waiting for their response. The idea is to repair 22,000 sq. ft. of the parking lot, specifically the area in front of the Church, the Grotto of Our Lady of Guadalupe and the area that leads to the Parish Office. We intend to request the money we have already collected from the On the Way – Andale Campaign.

 5) Eventually we will need to do a second project, to sealcoat the parking lot area that was repaired in October of 2015. We want to be proactive and prevent any damage.

6) And finally, we hope to paint and stripe all the parking lot spots once we complete the 22,000 sq. ft. repairs.

Thank you to all the people working behind the scenes helping to bring all these maintenance projects to completion.
